YURREBILLA TRAIL

Two-hundred-sixty-two runners crossed the finish line of the Yurrebilla Trail 56km in Belair, Adelaide (SA) on 25 September (Sunday), which was hosted by the South Australian Road Runners Club. Participants got an opportunity to race through national parks and conservation reserves under the Mt Lofty summit, making their way across the western face of the Adelaide Hills.

Podium finishers for the Men’s 56km were Oowan Davies (4:53:47), Matthew Dawes (5:19:18) and Travis Hickman (5:21:08). Top spots for the Women’s 56km went to Dannielle Vanderheul (6:23:42), Sarah Melville (6:25:31) and Anna Pearce (6:36:18).

Congratulations to all our AURA members who ran in the 56km, including Amanda Meggison (who secured 4th Female with her time of 6:43:36), Peter Goss (8:14:01), Ronnette Davies (8:58:16) and Cherie Rothery (10:52:29).

WTF

WA’s WTF (Waterous Trail on Foot) was held across the weekend of 24-25 Sept in Dwellingup, based around Nanga BushCamp where participants get to run around the Murray River. There are 3 legs, which are run once for the 50mi and twice for the 100mi. The 50km is the first and 3rd leg.

There were nine finishers in the 100mi, and a big congratulations to AURA’s Michael Hooker from East Perth who took home the title of 1st Male after finishing the gruelling distance in 16:40:26. Yet to be confirmed, but I understand it’s a new course record, and a new race record!

Second Male went to David White (25:56:20) and 3rd to Stephen Peacock (26:37:51).

In the Women’s 100mi, Cherie Savin won 1st Female (26:38:54), Ilze Roux won 2nd (27:22:07) and Charmaine Wagener took 3rd Female (33:36:00).

Well done to all our AURA members who took on the 100mi, including Doug Bartlett (31:36:00), Heath Watkins(33:09:00) and Sue Robertson (34:55:00).

A total of 20 finishers crossed the finish line in the 50mi, with winners in the Men’s 50mi including Justin Kelly for 1stMale (9:19:09) and AURA member Timothy Pullin from East Perth taking 2nd Male with a finish time of 10:02:39. Third Male was Nathan Reeves (10:13:03).

In the Women’s 50mi, Casey Edlington secured 1st Female (10:35:29) and AURA’s very own Jutta Kober from East Victoria Park took top honours with 2nd Female after finishing the distance in 13:08:00). Del Thompson took 3rd Female (16:09:00).

Congratulations to all AURA members who raced in the 50mi, including Frank Chauveau (17:50:00), William Thompson (19:55:00) and Julia MacKay-Koelen (24:31:00).

We are still awaiting official results for the 50km.

TASSIE TRAIL FEST

The Tassie Trail Fest was held last weekend, 1-2 October in Cataract Gorge, Launceston. Available to runners of all levels was a 100mi, 100km, 50km, 25km, 11km and a kids run.

Two runners finished the 100mi, both non-AURA members – Thibault Delcroix was first with 23:23:43 and Matthew Chamberlain second (41:19:30).

Nine runners finished the 100km distance, with 7 men and 2 women. In the Men’s 100km, podium finishes went to Andrew Gaskell (11:57:13), Brad Rindfleisch (14:13:37) and David Talamelli (16:57:31).

For the Women’s 100km, Jackie Goudy took 1st Female (16:56:25) and Tova Gallagher took 2nd (24:59:34).

In the 50km trail event, 40 participants crossed the finish line. For the Men’s 50km, top spots went to James Brady (5:18:14), Adam Harper (5:24:47) and Grant Hounlet (5:34:06). In the Women’s 50km, it was Deanna Blegg (6:33:13), Sarah Menzie (6:39:25) and Jessica Carter (7:12:07).

GREAT TRAIL RELAY

Ultra Series Australia’s Great Trail Relay kicked off the month of October, with the event held on Saturday, 1 Oct. Held in Jorgensen Park, Kalamunda teams would swap out every lap and race their way to 100km.

Congratulations to all teams who ran in the event – and the creativity behind the team names!

Podium winners of the Mixed Quad Teams 100km were Baked Beans (6:51:54), Inner City Fitness (7:09:42) and Ultra Lab (7:33:38). Well done to everyone who ran, including Emu Runners, Team Rocket, Chaotic Cousins, Scrambled Legs, Consistent Running, The Sneekers, Loonies, Manning Park Trail Runners, The Run Arounds, Team Epigroup, I’m So Excited, The Fast And The Fluffy, Team Turtle and Happy Feat.

Quad Female 100km podium finishers were Freo Running Club (8:36:41), Here We Go Again! (9:15:07) and Spring Chickens (9:37:32). Well done to the other Quad Female teams who came 4th, 5th and 6th respectively i.e. Swept Off Your Feet (10:22:24), Not Fast Just Furious (12:29:27) and Trail Tortoises (12:59:34).

Quad Male 100km winners were Beatle, Gru, Padre & Spider (7:20:08), Bananas Tears Then The Beers (7:25:17), and Tofu (8:20:16). Well done to the Quad Male teams too, including …Ok Let’s Not Get Lost (8:36:55), 3 Men And A Baby (8:43:15) and Xtra Spicy (9:01:25).

Mixed Duo podium results were Secret Peel (8:41:40), Parkrun Buddies (9:13:36) and Team PaMark (11:14:53). No FOMO came 4th (11:26:12).

Men’s Duo podium finishers were Worst Pace Scenario (8:14:45), Ren & Stimpy (8:45:05) and The Running Punters (9:24:59). 75 Models came 4th (9:52:47).

Female Duo winners were Run Forest Run (9:04:23), James (9:10:24) and Sole Sisters (9:53:54).

UPCOMING EVENTS

The Adelaide 6 Day kicked off over the weekend and will continue through until Friday – all the best to our AURA members racing in that event! Unfortunately, the Hume & Hovell Ultra, which was due to be held weekend of 8-9 October, has been cancelled due to extreme conditions of the track caused by recent heavy and unrelenting rain. Race directors are looking forward to making the 2023 event bigger and better than ever, so keep an eye out on their Facebook page and website for more information as the months move on.

The Lonely Mountain Ultra is due for 15-16 October in Orange, NSW and the Heysen 105 on 22-23 October is doubling up as the Australian Long Course Trail Championships, in Victor Harbour, SA.

Ultra-Trail Australia by UTMB will be held the last weekend of the month, from 27-30 October, and Old Mates Backyard Ultra in Upper Baron, Qld finishes off the month from 29-31 October.
