AUSTRALIA DAY ULTRA, AUSTRALIND, WA

The official results are in for the weekend’s Australia Day Ultra, which was held on Saturday in Australind, 160kms south of Perth right along the coastline. Conditions were warm for the flat and fast course, which presented two ultra distances – 100kms and 50kms. There was also a 25kms option for those wanting a taste of long distance running.

AURA members represented fantastically at ADU, and it was Tony Smith from Tapping, WA who secured first place AURA member to finish the 100kms in 8:31:19 and third overall out of a field of 21 men.

Nick O’Neill from Baldivis followed suit, placing fourth overall and second AURA member with 8:56:23.

For the ladies in the 100kms, Bernadette Benson claimed first women’s overall and first women’s AURA member to finish with a speedy time of 8:27:39. It was a new female course record, and Benson had improved her time from her entry in the 2015 ADU, where she took first for the women in 8:32:00.

Henley Brook’s Margaret Hadley came in a close and tight second on Saturday (women’s overall and AURA) in 8:41:20, improving her personal best after last year’s 8:58:17.

Congratulations to all those AURA members who took on the 100kms course – Ben Treasure (9:47:24), Glen Monaghan (11:10:41), Andrew O’Brien (12:48:31), Sue Robertson (14:12:57), Daniel O’BrienRichard Avery, and Andrew McLeish.

In the 50kms for the men we saw Chris Lark from Belmont comfortably take second overall in 3:51:52.

Well done to all the men and women who competed in the event, including William Wallace (5:51:20), Frank Chauveau (5:54:04), Ian Dougan (6:11:37), Emma Luscombe (4:59:02) and Kelly-Lynn Fleming (6:29:28).
