Introducing a new feature we like to call Spotlight On, where our AURA members get to know a little bit about some other AURA members!
Name: Amanda Callaghan
Age: 47
Location: Erskine Park, NSW
I have run a couple of 24 hour races and really enjoy it because you can set your own challenge. There is no pressure to complete a certain distance or keep a certain pace. It’s all about your own personal goals. I am training for my first 48 hour race in June and I’m hoping I’ll enjoy that just as much or even more.
I was looking for a marathon event with an extra long cutoff. I found out about the Sri Chinmoy 24 hour on track at Campbelltown NSW so signed up for the marathon. I really was inspired by people doing the ultramarathon races so I headed back the next year to do my first ultramarathon – a 24 hour race.
Sri Chinmoy 24 hour on Track 2019. I ran in the 24 hour race. I trained well and the event had a great atmosphere. I loved being able to run and know that there were always people around to cheer you on.
I’d love to be able to pace anyone who may be a beginner or who just wants to be able to run longer distances at a slow, steady pace. I just like the idea of being able to encourage people to love running as much as I do.
I would love to be able to run with the late Cliff Young. He is a great inspiration for me.
My ultramarathons so far have been on track but things I always bring along with me would definitely be Body Glide, warm clothes to change in at night and of course plenty of nutrition and hydration.
I’m not sure of an exact event. I’d like to do a multi day event though. Hopefully I’ll get there one day.
