2016 AURA Award Winners Announced

AURA is pleased to announce the winners of the 2016 AURA Awards:

Australian Female Ultra Runner of the Year: Kirstin Bull
The award committee felt Kirstin's run at the 2016 World 100km Championships when she won the event in an Australian record time of 7:34:25 and was declared “World Champion” made her absolutely deserving of our Association’s preeminent award for female runners for 2016.

Australian Male Ultra Runner of the Year: Brendan Davies
The award committee felt Brendan's run at the 2016 World 100km Championships was absolutely world class, when he achieved tenth position in a time of 6:44:20, and this combined with his other performances both when representing Australia and in other AURA events make him a worthy winner.

Helen Stanger Award: Nikki Eadie
This award is presented annually for the greatest single best ultra running achievement by a female under the age of 60. The award committee felt Nikki's run at the 2016 48 Hour Event in Canberra was outstanding, when she won the event with a distance of 343km, a best ever performance by an Australian female runner over 48 hours, and the best distance in the world achieved last year.

Bryan Smith Award: Mick Thwaites
This award is presented annually for the greatest single best ultra running achievement by a male under the age of 60. The award committee felt Mick's run at the 2016 48 Hour Event in Canberra was absolutely world leading, when he won the event with a distance of 413km, the third best ever performance by an Australian runner over 48 hours, and the best distance in the world achieved by any runner for a number of years.

Young Female Ultra Runner of The Year: Lucy Bartholomew

Young Male Ultra Runner of The Year: Joel Claxton

Cliff Young Award: Barry McBride
Greatest single best ultra running achievement by a male over the age of 60. The award committee felt Barry's run at the 2016 Adelaide 24 Hour Race was superb, when he won the event with a distance of 206km.

Shirley Young Award: No Award
Greatest single best ultra running achievement by a female over the age of 60.
