This race is conducted in one of the most pristine of Australia's many beautiful coastlines. Travel and accommodation is inexpensive and easy.......so come on down and enjoy some Tassie hospitality.

Air travel: Direct flights are available from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne with Jetstar. The prices are $218, $138 and $98 return light (carry on only) at time of writing.

Ground transport: Rental Cars are available from the usual operators, Avis, Budget, Europcar etc. If 3 - 4 runners pool together this keeps the cost at a reasonable level. Or why not get a larger group together and hire a minibus. 12 seater min vans are available from Budget for approx $130/day.

Recommended accommodation:

Launceston: With a population of approximately 100,000 people, Launceston is Australia's third oldest city behind only Sydney and Hobart. As such it is rich in colonial history and has many attractions on offer. Don't miss the famous Cataract gorge or Australia's longest continuous cable ride at Hollybank.

IAU Bronze label: This race has been awarded an IAU bronze label and, as such, is recognised by the International Association of Ultrarunners. What this means is that the race will be included in the IAU calendar, the results will be posted on the IAU website and the placegetters will be considered for inclusion in the team to represent Australia at the upcoming IAU world trail championships.

Save the Tasmanian Devil Program: The Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) is a carnivorous marsupial now found in the wild only in the island state of Tasmania. The size of a small dog, it became the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world following the extinction of the thylacine in 1936. The animal is found in the Narawntapu National Park. Since the late 1990s, devil facial tumour disease has drastically reduced the devil population and now threatens the survival of the species, which in May 2009 was declared to be endangered. Programs are currently being undertaken by the Government of Tasmania to reduce the impact of the disease, including an initiative to build up a group of healthy devils in captivity, isolated from the disease. To make a donation to this worthy cause, visit "Save the Tasmanian Devil" for a program administered by The University of Tasmania under the auspices of the Tasmanian State Government.
