IAU 50km trophy race

The IAU conducts a 50km trophy race each year. There are several (approximately twelve) selection races held throughout the year between January and end July/August. The winner (male and female) of each selection race plus a number of wildcards (performance based) will then contest the final race. The last IAU 50km trophy race was conducted at Gibraltar on 31 October 2009. The next 50km Trophy Final will take place on 29th August 2010 in Galway, Ireland.

In 2009, Australia was represented by June Petrie and Verity Tolhurst. June finished 4th woman in 3:44:35, setting a new Australian W45 record in the process and Verity finished 7th in 4:06:54.

For the past three years the Canberra 50km race, conducted in conjunction with the Canberra marathon, has been the selection race for Australia. The Canberra marathon and 50km race for 2010 has been cancelled because of an ongoing legal dispute and the qualifying race has been switched to the Gold Coast, to be held on Sunday 13 June 2010.

Airfares and accommodation are provided (either in full or in large part) to those who qualify. For more information on the Gold Coast 50 km selection race, see http://www.aura.asn.au/GoldCoast100.html
